Angelica Urquijo – The Imagen Group 

President and Founder

Angelica Urquijo serves as the Chief Strategist and leads Communications, Marketing, Public Relations and Community Engagement efforts at The Imagen Group, Inc. a Latina owned and led public relations and Hispanic marketing agency based in Los Angeles serving clients in Southern California and across the United States.   Her expertise optimizing organization-wide message strategies, to ensure relevance and cultural competency among target populations and engage the general market and ethnic media outlets. She has the ability to help move the needle and positively influence thinking of others, forge strategic relationships and build consensus with cross-functional teams, elected officials, business and community leaders, non-government organizations, non-profits, and key decision makers external stakeholders and news media. Clients often call upon her to serve as the positive “face of an organization” as a bilingual spokesperson and community liaison. 


Angelica is credited with effectively leading community outreach and communications strategy, and training development for organizations to include: the City of Los Angeles,  Los Angeles County Development Authority (LCDA, State of California- Department of Toxic Substances Control, United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA), California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, Mexican Consulate General LA, University of Southern California, White Memorial Medical Center, National University System, LA Southwest College, Discovery Cube LA, and the California Water Association.  As a former broadcast journalist, she brings deep grassroots and treetop community relationships, her passion for storytelling and making a difference in the community sets the foundation needed for the team at The Imagen Group to effectively serve clients in the development and implementation of education and change of behavior programs. Understanding the unique needs of the multicultural communities in California and across The United States has enabled Angelica to establish a strong network of community influencers. She has been instrumental in developing media outreach opportunities with prominent news outlets, increasing visibility locally, nationally, and internationally. Client coverage includes The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, La Opinion, Univision and Telemundo, ABC, BBC, CNN, and major LA based Spanish language radio stations.

Angelica is a seasoned, bilingual public relations professional who has utilized her “Out of the Box” strategy for the last 25 years to lead public relations, social media, multiculture marketing and community and government affairs initiatives for major non-profits, financial institutions, healthcare providers, government agencies, labor and professional organizations, universities, consumer goods companies and professional athletes.

Her colleagues and friends agree on one thing, she is passionate about her job and building partnerships. “It’s my experience as a former television reporter and news anchor that is my best weapon when developing integrated marketing, public relations and public engagement strategies and programs that get attention and lead to results for our clients ” says Angelica.

SPECIALIZATIONS

What makes her shine: As the lead news anchor for Fox affiliates in California and Nevada, Angelica also wrote and produced long-format news reports for the “Health Beat” a bi-weekly, sponsored medical segment that provided health news that viewers could use. She was recognized by management for being instrumental as the lead anchor in helping the news outlets attain the highest ratings in the United States among key demographics.

Serving as an ongoing national media spokesperson  for our clients appearing on Spanish language radio and television to include: Univision TV and Radio, Telemundo and Azteca America.


And in times of crisis, the experience as a former journalist enables her to prepare an organization’s leadership and executive team through one on one and group media training to effectively respond to the tough questions posed by reporters, while protecting the reputation of the organization.


Angelica earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California (USC),  Marshall School of Business Administration and completed numerous specialty programs in Marketing, Public Relations and Broadcast Journalism from The University of California, Los Angeles. Over the years, she has been actively involved as a member of the advisory board and board of directors for community groups dedicated to improving the lives of under-served children and empowering women, promoting education, health and professional development.  Currently serving on the National Board of Directors for ALPFA.
